Fun with fungus starts Sunday: 'I love the Mushroom Festival'

EUGENE, Ore. -- Whether you want to learn more about mushrooms or just want to taste all the fun fungus cuisine, the annual Mushroom Festival at Mt. Pisgah Arboretum Sunday should have you covered.
The festival was started 33 years ago by Freeman Rowe, a biology teacher at Lane Community College.
Over the years Rowe’s festival gathered popularity, making it a unique staple of Eugene’s culture. Tom Locascio of the Mount Pisgah Arboretum said they expect about 5,000 people to show up.

“I love the mushroom festival. It really brings out the brighter side of Oregon, before the sun starts to peak behind the clouds," said Locascio.
While mushrooms might be the main focus of Sunday’s festival, there will be plenty of food vendors, hay rides, and a scarecrow contest to keep everyone occupied.

The Mushroom Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Mt. Pisgah Arboretum. Entry is $8but children 12 and under get in free.
